Our new Reception children have amazed us with how well they have been coming into school, dealing with new routines, new people & a new environment. This is a big step so we are really proud of how the children have approached their first two weeks, getting to know each other, their new school and routines.
We have had a wonderful week this week starting to learn our first set of phonemes in phonics this week: s, a, and t.
We also learnt our first helpful word, I.
Next week we will also start to learn our next set of sounds: p and i. Alongside another helpful word, go.
Our nursery rhyme of the week has been pat a cake pat a cake.
This week as part of our Home Sweet Home topic, we have been exploring all about ourselves.
Reception class explored images of themselves and class mates as babies and toddlers. Thank you to all of the pictures sent in, the children loved looking at them. We played detective to try and figure out who it was. We talked about what we looked like in the past and how we have all changed.
We used purple mash to design a self portrait of what we look like now. We thought about our hair colour, eye colours and different body parts. We explored how we are all different and unique.
We have been talking about the importance of hand washing. Reception class did an experiement to show what happens to germs if we don't wash our hands. We realised how easy germs can spread and stick to our hands. We have been reminding our friends to wash their hands before eating, after the toilet and after being outside.
We look forward to another great week next week.
